COLORADO ICE CLIMBING
Ice climbing is thought of by some as the winter version of Rock Climbing. While the techniques may seem similar, they’re as drastically different as the gear is. Being that Colorado is mountainous and cold in the winter time we are fortunate enough to have some amazing climbing locations throughout the state. Whether you're an experienced climber or someone new to the sport, if it's something you're into, you won't regret the places that it may take you. Located in some of the most beautiful, pristine, and hard to reach places in Colorado, ice climbing might just be one of Colorado's best kept secrets.
Colorado Culture Approved: We highly recommend going with an outfitter for Ice Climbing if its your first time, but if you're an experienced climber or looking to get some solid practice runs in you should definitely go check out Ouray Ice Park in Ouray, Colorado. It's a man made ice park in a serene gorge located just a few minutes from downtown.
Friendly Travel Tip: We’d recommend practicing in an indoor bouldering gym first, then hitting the rocks in the summer time before strapping on some crampons and clinging to the ice with an axe, but hey, to each their own. But seriously, if you have no experience please practice in a gym first or book a trip with one of Colorado's many experienced outfitters. This is NOT something you should try on your own. Make sure to properly prepare yourself for any adventure.
