COLORADO GHOST TOWNS
Being that Colorado was at the very center of a silver mining boom that happened in the late 19th century, the now defunct mines and the abandoned towns they supported offer some of the best “rural exploring” in the country. Ghost Towns are not only cool they are also are one of the best ways to get a first hand look into the history that made Colorado what it is today.
Colorado Culture Approved: One of our favorite ghost towns in Colorado is Animas Forks. Located down by Silverton, CO at 11,200 feet above sea level some of the original buildings still stand in relatively decent shape, but it's not easy to get to and if you try we highly recommend an off-road vehicle.
Friendly Travel Tip: It’s very important to exercise caution if you do choose to check any of these places out however, many of them either now sit on private land or are wholly structurally unsafe. Do your research before you venture.
